Developing Local Skills Pilot Project
The London Eye has been working closely with Lambeth Council and key stakeholders such as the South Bank Employers' Group to ensure that a proportion of Section 106 funding (planning gain monies) is directed to deliver a number of key projects for the benefit of the Waterloo area.
South Bank Employers' Group worked with the London Eye to provide local people with the skills to access job opportunities. The scheme targeted unemployed Lambeth residents, assisting with CV-writing and improving interview techniques and confidence levels. Participants in the scheme were then able to apply for positions at the London Eye, or were better placed to apply for similar roles.
Funded by: London Eye Section 106 funding via the London Borough of Lambeth

One Step Further
The One Step Further programme was a pan-London scheme to help unemployed people back into work by providing practical training and job sourcing.
Over two years, South Bank Employers' Group worked with over 150 unemployed residents in the boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark to improve their prospects. Based on the job-seekers' aspirations, SBEG developed learning and action plans. Typical activities included recognised qualifications such as Food Hygiene, accredited ESOL training, CV and interview workshops, plus funding vocational courses and work experience.

REACH
South Bank Employers' Group worked with partners Prevista Ltd and Barnet College to address perceptions of unemployed people, and to tackle barriers to employment.
The REACH project aimed to reach different sectors by holding a series of events; Cultural and Creative; Retail; Care; Construction and Tourism. Each event encouraged industry representatives to interact with delegates, to challenge perceptions and to explain more about the types of jobs available and alternative routes into the sector- including volunteering. Training and support providers also provided advice about the assistance available to both the unemployed and the employer.

Getting Ready For Work
The programme prepared unemployed Lambeth residents for the working environment. Students benefitted from one to one support in CV construction, as well as workshops in interview techniques and application forms. The theory was followed by practice sessions as students were coached through the process of applying for a job. The programme also worked closely with local job support agencies to help learners find employment.
