Waterloo Job Shop image

Waterloo Job Shop

The Waterloo Job Shop is a partnership between South Bank Employers' Group, Jobcentre Plus and the London Borough of Lambeth.

Based in Lower Marsh, the Waterloo Job Shop is a local job brokerage facility that has successfully placed over 200 local people into employment in 2007. It also offers pre-employment training courses to help people improve their skills, including CV writing and interview techniques.

Employer-Led Recruitment Programme

The Employer-led Recruitment Programme is aimed at assisting unemployed people in the area to access local job opportunities. Working with approximately 40 local employers, the programme identifies new vacancies, and with customised training and work placements, helps people gain the appropriate skills and experience to apply.

Key elements of the programme include: employer engagement, outreach activies, learning plans, tailored training, job brokerage and pre/post interview support for employers and candidates.

In April 2007 the programme filled 26 Patient Transport Porter positions at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital Trust. Recruitment for over 80 housekeeping vacancies is underway.

PALESTRA Regeneration Benefits

The London Development Agency's (LDA) relocation to Blackfriars Road is the catalyst for an exciting employment and training project. The LDA and South Bank Employer's Group are now working more closely on an initiative to train and place more residents into local jobs.

Opportunities include customised training that both meets the needs of the employers and candiate, work placements and mentoring schemes, intensive employers engagement and inhouse training.

Employer- Led Work Experience Programme

The Employer-Led Work Experience programme aims to provide young people with a positive experience of work, so they are able to develop skills, experience and their CV's, in preparation for future permanent employment.

Programmes of activity are tailored to the employer, and interested candidates matched to placements. The aim is to ensure both client and candidate expectations are met, and both parties are supported throughout to ensure maximum benefit.

Current projects include developing a structured work placement programme with Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital Trust.
