The South Bank Partnership co-ordinates and monitors initiatives to improve the South Bank, Waterloo and Blackfriars area.

To achieve this, it brings together officers and Councillors from the London Boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark, members of South Bank Employers' Group and the two local MPs, Kate Hoey and Simon Hughes.

The Partnership's specific area of concern is that between Lambeth and Blackfriars Bridges and stretching south as far as St. George's Circus.

The objectives of the Partnership are to protect the local environment and infrastructure and to promote good urban design. It also tackles crime and seeks to improve community safety. It is focused on enhancing the employment prospects, education and skills of local people, particularly the young and the disadvantaged, and promotes equality of opportunity to all. The Partnership works to encourage sustainable economic growth and wealth creation by improving the competitiveness of the local community, including business support. The group also promotes consultation on all local regeneration projects.

Ultimately, the Partnership is concerned with enhancing the quality of life for local people. London’s South Bank: A manifesto for action details the group's vision for the future of the South Bank neighbourhood.

The main functions of the Partnership are to:

  • Maintain an effective partnership of private and public sector interests in the South Bank area
  • Promote, co-ordinate and monitor the transformation and regeneration of the area
  • Co-ordinate and monitor the long-term management of the area
  • Ensure implementation of environmental improvements based on South Bank Employers' Group's Urban Design Strategy
  • Promote projects and identify funding from both private and public sectors
  • Encourage community input and feedback via the South Bank Forum

The South Bank Partnership Board meets at least four times a year.
